If you are unfamiliar with Global Citizen, they are an Australian-born initiative that was created to counteract extreme poverty around the world. With their online and mobile platform, Global Citizen encourages people to take activist action by allowing them to accumulate point for the actions they take to stop extreme poverty and then letting them redeem those points for prizes, such as concert tickets to the Global Citizen Festival or other big concerts and events. Since their launch in 2012 with the very first Global Citizen Festival, more than 7 million actions have been taken to stop extreme poverty.

This year, Global Citizen has used its innovative platform to impact a projected 600 million lives worldwide and, to celebrate, they’re rewarding their hard-working activist users with a huge concert in Central Park. The festival lineup will include an array of well-known musicians such as: Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez and even rock legend, Metallica. And if you think the concert lineup is good, the concert hosts are equally as impressive. Chelsea Handler, Hugh Jackman and Neil Patrick Harris are only some of the incredible guests and hosts that will appear at this year’s Festival.

Although Smart Coos will not be a part of this extraordinary event, we admire Global Citizen’s progress toward their goal of eliminating extreme poverty and share in their passion for helping disadvantaged individuals in our world.
