However, quiet time is still beneficial. It gives children time to rest and calm down instead of constantly being active and tiring themselves out in the middle of the day. If they’re transitioning out of afternoon nap time, kids should be given something relaxing and engaging to do during quiet time. Here are a few ideas for quiet time activities:
<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block; text-align:center;" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9289218266222230" data-ad-slot="2581675933"></ins>

Puzzles: Puzzles come in all shapes and sizes, and they are made for children of all ages. You can buy them in 10 pieces for toddlers or 500 pieces for older kids. It’s an activity that children can do by themselves or with a bunch of friends or even with you. It’s a good quiet activity that can also stimulate their minds.

Coloring Books: Coloring books give children the ability to be creative. They can color them whatever colors they want and create something of their own. It also gives them structure by giving them lines to follow. Coloring books, like puzzles, can be bought for children based on age and different interests. There are so many varieties of coloring books out there that there’s bound to be something for every child.

Books: Books are great for kids! Toddlers can entertain themselves by looking at picture books, and older children can read pre-teen and regular books. Books give children a story to follow and engage in as well as the opportunity to visualize it in their own minds, unlike television.

Play Clay: Whether store-bought or home-made, children of all ages are able to create sculptures or whatever their little hearts desire with all different colors of clay. They can take their sculptures apart and start over or let them dry to save them. It lets them touch and feel what they’re creating and allows them to use their creativity like in coloring.

There are a ton of additional sources out there that offer other quiet time activities for young kids. I particularly enjoy the Kids Activity Blog by Liz. The article is full of links to beautiful images and instructions on fun DIY projects. Another great source is Playdough to Plato by Malia Hollowell. They do a wonderful job at coming up with fun quiet time activities for kids 4 to 7 years old. My last recommendation is to check out an amazing blog in the Parenting section of Mom.me, written by Michelle Horton. Her activities were so interesting that I actually wanted to drop my work and do each and every one of her suggestions myself.

Quiet time is a necessary part of a kid’s schedule that lets them calm down and relax a little bit during the hustle and bustle of a regular day. There are so many ways for kids to enjoy quiet time, too! These activities are enough to get you started. Try them out and let us know which activities your little one enjoys the most.

By: Jordan Herbst Edited by: Gelsey Brizo Quiet Time Activities After the age of 4, naps aren’t really necessary anymore because it’s time for kids to transition into the grade school schedule.
