She is the mom of three children of ages 5, 3 and 1. We were excited to learn more about her and her journey as a mom of multilingual children and her method for success. Her journey began years ago, as she knew she wanted her children to have a strong English and Hebrew. She and her husband are raising their kids in a country where the primary language is not English. Her two eldest daughters were introduced to Hebrew at different ages and Aliza has been able to tell how this has affected both differently. \u201cOur eldest was in English speaking environment 100% until she was 3.5\u201d, she explains, \u201cAnd my 3 year old was exposed to Hebrew at about 1\u201d.<br \/>\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9289218266222230\" data-ad-slot=\"2581675933\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nIn general she considers that her 5 year old is much more articulate and her English is significantly better than her Hebrew. As far as her 3-year-old daughter, her Hebrew is a bit better than her English and Aliza thinks she prefers it sometimes. She shared with us some of the methods she implements at home, which include always speaking in English in the house. \u201cIf my girls start speaking in Hebrew I&#8217;ll join in on the conversation and then try to gradually change it back to English\u201d, she explains. Aliza stays optimistic in believing that these tactics will positively affect her kid\u2019s language in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We were very happy to be able to learn more about Aliza as we sat down with her for a brief interview.<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>After giving birth, did you create a formal plan for raising your children with more than one language?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We never created a formal plan from birth, but we knew for sure that we wanted to keep our kids in an English speaking environment for as long as possible to make sure that their English stayed strong. My eldest was in a completely English speaking environment until she was 3.5. Our younger children started with Hebrew environments earlier on and we see that they are leaning more towards Hebrew. We try to encourage them to play in only English at home.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>What is your fondest memory as a mother of multilingual children? Your not so fondest memory? Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">My fondest memory was the first time I heard my eldest daughter speak in her sleep in Hebrew. Her English has always been very strong, but when I heard her dreaming in Hebrew I knew that she was getting it.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>If you could give only ONE advice to parents that are planning to raise multilingual children, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our children are too young to see if our methods are working for the long term but I think you should take the lead from your child. They will soak up information quicker than you would believe. Be as patient with them as possible, they will prefer expressing themselves in whichever language they feel most comfortable in (whether that&#8217;s the language you speak at home or the language they speak outside of the home), which will cause them some frustration and stress at times.
