IMUG Hosts Multilingual Twitter Talk

Ever wonder how such an essential and ubiquitous medium like the internet deals with the thousands of languages spoken by its global contributors? If you have, then this talk could be for you:

Next week, on Thursday, October 15, the International Multilingual User Group (IMUG) will be presenting a discussion on Twitter’s adaptation to language diversity in Silicon Valley. Speakers Alolita Sharma, senior engineering manager, and James Koval, internationalization engineer, both of Twitter, are the talks featured speakers.



They will be discussing multilingual challenges faced by their news and social media platform, as well as the Web in general, and the respective language technologies and engineering solutions that have been devised to deal with these challenges. In order to make the internet truly accessible on a worldwide scale, multilingual technologies need to be nurtured and implemented. One of these technologies, and a secondary focus of the discussion, is twitter-text, an open-source engineering library that Twitter uses to understand multilingual tweets and streamline their language accessibility.
