Krystel Spell is Vice President of Brand Outreach & Marketing for MSBNewMedia.com She is the Co-founder of the monthly subscription box for military spouses called TheSpouseBox.com, and she is the military spouse and mom behind the popular lifestyle blog for military spouses ArmyWife101.com.
Also, Krystel recently launched RetailSalute.com, a military discount and deals site for today’s military families. Krystel has appeared on MSNBC and on FOX LA, NY Times Radio, and is a former weekly contributor to The Headline News Channel. As if that weren’t enough she has contributed to Sheknows.com, Lifetime Moms, and has worked as an influencer with countless brands including, Toyota, Chevrolet, Brawny, Tylenol, Universal Studios and many more.
Recently, we sat down with Krystel Spell for an interview about her amazing journey as a dedicated parent and a business owner.
What was the inspiration behind your blog/ page? Why have you continued?
The military lifestyle is challenging and most times we only hear about that side of it. I wanted to showcase the lighter side of this lifestyle and give military spouses a place to come and laugh as well as get informative news in an easy to understand format.
How many kids do you have? What is the age of your youngest and oldest? If more than one, did you plan to have that age gap?
When I married my husband he was the father of a beautiful 3 year old little girl who is now 16 years old. Our now 10 year old son wasn’t necessarily planned but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
What is your fondest memory as a mother? Your not so fondest memory? Why?
My fondest memory literally is the day I gave birth. I never in a million years thought I would be strong enough to endure so much pain, but to see the end result is priceless. My not so fondest memories are the terrible twos I experienced with my son. While my daughter was an easy going child- my son challenged me with lots of temper tantrums which brought me to tears many of days. It was an experience that I prefer not to revisit.
How does motherhood influence your blog? Your business decisions?
Motherhood is the sole reason why I am an entrepreneur. My mom never was able to go on class trips or chaperone classroom parties because she had to work. I wanted the ability to call the shots on my career and allow my kids to see my face everyday when they come home. They love that I am here to hang out with them when they get home from school and during the summers too.
If you could tell a new mother ONE thing and only one thing what would it be?
I see so many moms who go overkill on schedules and specifics. Its great to be organized but spending to much time on that makes you miss out on the everyday moments of life. Control what you can and allow what you can’t to happen.
What does the future look like for you, your family and your business?
If the future is anything like it is now things are going to be great. I am fortunate to continue to work from home and have even hired my daughter as a packer for our monthly subscription box company. Opportunities like this are why I am continuing to work hard.
